An Astronaut Gave An Out-Of-This-World Tribute To Leonard Nimoy

Live long and prosper.

Star Trek fans are still in mourning for Leonard Nimoy, the actor famous for his role as Spock, who died on Friday at the age of 83.

The beloved sci-fi character was known by the Vulcan “live long and prosper” hand gesture.

Fans, both famous and otherwise, have been using the gesture to pay tribute to Nimoy.

In a fitting extraterrestrial tribute to the late star, NASA Astronaut Terry Virts has tweeted a picture of the Vulcan gesture from the International Space Station, looking down at Nimoy’s birthplace of Boston.

It’s enough to make even Spock a little bit emotional.

Tolerance bullies to ex-Miss Pennsylvania: Donald Trump should threaten to rape you, bitch!/taluewho/status/210221719154200576

Miss Pennsylvania handed over her tiara to the Miss Universe pageant, saying she wanted no part of a “rigged” contest.

Pageant organizer Donald Trump says Sheena Monnin’s claims about pageant rigging are false and that she dropped out because she lost on Sunday. But the Miss Universe Organization believes Monnin resigned because transgender contestants are now allowed to compete.

In a transcript of the email said to be from Mommim and provided by the Miss Universe Organization, the 27-year-old from Cranberry, Penn., wrote that she refused to be “part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it. This goes against ever moral fiber of my being. I believe in integrity, high moral character, and fair play, none of which are part of this system any longer.

As always, the evolved, open-minded tolerance bullies couldn’t help but show their true misogynist colors. Like 2009 Miss California winner Carrie Prejean, Monnin was demonized and attacked with vile, vitriolic slurs.

Miss Pennsylvania is a cunt. I'm glad she stepped down. What a terrible, close-minded delegate for my diverse & culturally rich state. Sic.

Idiot bitch~> Miss Pennsylvania Resigns: Inclusion of Transgender Contestant Goes Against Every Moral Fiber of My Being

— Amatul Siddiqa (@amatul) June 6, 2012

So disgusted that Miss Pennsylvania is such a closed-minded bitch. Ashamed to say she represented my state. #discriminationisntcute

Miss Pennsylvania's "moral fiber" doesn't include transgenders, but getting gangbanged by the football team in a Mustang in high school, yep

Tolerance for me, but not for thee.

ThinkProgress’ Bachmann backtrack catches Jonah Goldberg’s attention!/kevinpost/status/493523520035364864

ThinkProgress relayed a “news” report that claimed Rep. Michele Bachmann was calling for illegal immigrant children at the border to be put in “labor camps,” or “Americanization facilities” as Bachmann was quoted as saying.

Just one problem: None of it was true. ThinkProgress eventually issued a “correction,” and Jonah Goldberg was impressed by its scope:!/JonahNRO/status/493539364493090816

The ThinkProgress post now consists of a brief “correction” saying Bachmann “never made the statement” followed by a several hundred word “story” that has been completely lined out.!/mt_newman/status/493540673384382464!/RommelsMom/status/493542519989620736

The ThinkProgress “correction” was spotted by many others:!/hboulware/status/493525499650392064!/charlescwcooke/status/493520873605697536!/onawav/status/493526446590427136!/seanparoski/status/493529570838994944

These Complicated Things Are Actually Really Simple If You Look At Them Like This.

Our world is full of mysterious and strange things. (And I’m not talking about Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster, either.) There are many things in our normal, every day lives that become so complicated when you attempt to explain them. However, if you look at those ideas in a certain way, everything will become clear…

Like this!

1.) This isn’t super nice of them, though.

2.) This actually makes them kind of scarier.

3.) Small, wet land boats!

4.) Whoa, that’s meta. (And they use meta tags!)

5.) So simple, but so deadly.

6.) Sometimes you just need a tune-up.

7.) Make the “red stuff” go away.

8.) Shocking, but true.

9.) The most obedient invention. (Until you get a rainbow wheel.)

10.) Maturity means filling out a lot of paperwork.s

11.) First is the worst in this situation.

12.) The most useless emotion, really.

13.) Or, perpetually successful clumsiness.

14.) Usually because you were mean to it.

15.) It’s basically that game “telephone” you played as a kid, but people get paid to do it.

16.) Whether or not those dreams come true is a different story.

Now go and impress your friend with your vast knowledge. You’ve earned it.r

These Guys Have The Most Insanely Dangerous Job In The World. That One Photo Is Just… OMG.

Not many people dream about having a hard, dangerous job. Spending sleepless nights on a rough, freezing ocean doesn’t usually sound like fun, but Portland artist Corey Arnold was somehow able to make it appealing. Not only is he an artist, but he is a fisherman that has spent months living on the unforgiving, open ocean. He documented his time on a crabbing boat, and these are photos that you just have to see.

Commercial fishing isn’t an easy job, but Corey makes it look fun.

Even though it’s a cold, exhausting life.

He began fishing in 2002 when the economy was having trouble.

He was in for a freezing life on the seas, battling storms and crabbing.

He did his best to document his adventures.

It’s a life many would be unable to really understand.

It is wild.

And unforgiving.

But there are many men who embrace it.

Even if that means they end up missing a finger or two.

Corey compiled his photos into a book called Fish-Work: The Bering Sea.

It’s a grueling, hard life… but it’s the passion of many people.

Source: Corey Arnold via Visual News If you’d like to see more of Corey’s life on the fishing boats, check out his book Fish-Work: The Bering Sea on Amazon. He has had life experiences not many of us will ever get the chance to have and it’s fascinating. Share this with others by clicking below!

Bob Beckel caught up in RNC #NegroSpotting; ‘More blacks in the band’!/TracyJeffords/status/241652613756641280

You would have thought that Clay Aiken’s embrace of the bigoted #NegroSpotting trend during the Republican National Convention would have proved to be the end of that pathetic craze. But look who’s playing now: it’s Bob Beckel of Fox’s “The Five,”  The Right Scoop helpfully provides the video.

Bob Beckel: Racism self-evident at RNC, more blacks in the band than entire RNC delegation

— Right Scoop (@trscoop) August 31, 2012

Bob Beckel pulling the race card again… There were more black people in the band than blacks at the RNC

— danger close (@RealDangerClose) August 31, 2012

Kudos to @gregutfeld for calling out racist @RobertGBeckel on his GOP generalization.

— bakedflounder (@bakedflounder) August 31, 2012

Bob Beckel is a bigot.

— Renee (@rightwingertoo) August 31, 2012

@trscoop Beckel you are so NOT TELLING THE TRUTH……. and why is it you guys are constantly talking about race……

— JackieFlash (@patriot1944) August 31, 2012

We’re not sure what band Beckel was talking about, and we’re not sure he knows either. Perhaps he was watching MSNBC’s whitewash of RNC coverage when he started his tally.

We have to wonder if Bob Beckel will bring his dubious color-counting skills over to his coverage of the overwhelmingly white Democratic National Convention line-up next week.
