NC State University Fraternity Suspended After Report Of Sexual Assault

The victim was allegedly assaulted at a party hosted by Alpha Tau Omega on Sunday.

NC State University spokesperson Mick Kulikowski told BuzzFeed News Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was suspended on Tuesday, effective immediately, as information was presented suggesting the fraternity violated the school’s Student Code of Conduct and the Department of Greek Life’s risk management policies. The fraternity’s social and formal will also cease immediately. Campus police issued a crime alert about a report of sexual assault at a North Carolina State University fraternity house.

NC State campus police told BuzzFeed News the victim is a female student and that she was assaulted at a party hosted at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on Varsity Drive in Raleigh around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Additional details were not provided.

On the North Carolina State University Greek Life website, an asterisk next to the Alpha Tau Omega name indicates the chapter was found responsible by the Office of Student Conduct for an alcohol violation and damaged property and is currently under disciplinary sanctions.

A spokesperson for the university said the website has not been properly updated and that the fraternity completed its sanctions in December 2014.

The spokesperson released the following statement to BuzzFeed News:

“The university takes all reports and allegations of this nature seriously and investigates immediately. In addition to a thorough investigation by authorities, the university is also conducting an inquiry to determine any potential violations of the Code of Student Conduct.”

Members of Alpha Tau Omega did not immediate respond to requests for comment.
